The FAST Center (Future Alloy Study & Testing) is a public/private partnership between Scot Forge and the Department of Defense. The Scot Forge employee-owners are proud to partner with IBAS and the Navy to serve the evolving needs of our nation’s military. To support rapid learning on new chemistries or processes, the FAST Center will have two operational paths to choose from called: Velocity Testing or Discrete Testing.
VELOCITY TESTING is High Volume Testing for Property Bounding
Heat Treating | Specimen Prep | Tensile | Charpy | Dynamic Tear | Compression | Fracture Toughness | Metallography
This path is designed and equipped to conduct thousands of the most common tests and increment chemistry and/or heat treatment iterations very quickly, maximizing the data available for the scientific community to determine process or chemistry iterations.
DISCRETE TESTING is Low Volume Testing for Property Refinement
Elevated Temperature Tensile & Compression | Minimum Service Temperature Tensile & Compression | Shear Properties | Cold Forming Properties | Fatigue | Other
This path is highly customized, and upon agreement of the appropriate chemistries or heat treatments, samples will proceed into the discrete testing path for the remainder of the characterization requirements. Given the nature of the tests, the duration of the discrete tests will be highly dependent on e alloy system and testing requirements.
The FAST Center will have initial operational capability in the first half of 2025.
The FAST Center can accept fully machined specimens or cut blanks, from which we can extract samples. Please review the blank size requirements indicated on the FAST Center Rough Blank Size document to ensure enough material is provided for an efficient turnaround.
