Renewable Energy OEMs Are Forging The Future With Scot Forge

Your team is engineering the advancements in renewable energy infrastructure, and our team offers the large-scale forging knowledge and expertise to bring your project to completion. We create precision-crafted, forged solutions for renewable energy structures and components, critical for solar, geothermal, wind, hydro and biomass. When quality can't be compromised, in an industry that demands parts withstand the harshest environments, OEMs turn to Scot Forge.

Keeping power flowing to homes and businesses is vital for everyday life and economic strength. Generating billions in commercial activity, the renewable energy industry, backed by clean energy initiatives, brings countless opportunities for the innovation, manufacturing and export of green energy technology. Solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and bioenergy are all renewable energy resources that can capitalize on the inherently superior properties of forgings.

Renewable Energy Forged Parts

Whether the application is wind, hydro, biomass or solar, we provide forged shapes, which come with the inherent benefits of forgings, for renewable energy turbines, generators, compressors, gearboxes, heat exchangers and blowers.

  • Rings (Full/Segmented): Diaphragms, stators, spacers, retainers, motor ends, shear resistances, locks, seals, adapter or spherical seats, flanges and sleeves
  • Shafts: rotors, Generators and turbines
  • Discs and Hubs: Covers, wheels, suction/discharge end caps, adapters, impellers, tube sheets and nozzles
  • Complex Shapes: Bucket/fan blade stock and turbine blades
  • Additional Shapes: Casings, spacers, centrifuge bowls, bearing blocks, shells and transition cones

Wind Power

Whether you are farming wind on land or have an off-shore wind project, we forge American-made components from US materials. Including the essential parts in the nacelle (gearbox, high-speed shaft, low-speed shaft and brake), the yaw drive for upwind turbines (shaft and gear) and tower components for both downwind and upwind turbines.

Biomass Power

Converting biomass to energy is done through various processes such as direct combustion, thermochemical, chemical and biological conversion – to create solid, gaseous and liquid fuels. The need for components to withstand high heat, pressure and caustic environments during these processes makes forgings an ideal choice for biomass power production. At Scot Forge, we have experience manufacturing forgings for kiln components, much like those used in the pyrolysis process and reactor components, like those needed for the hydrotreating process, to produce bio-oil, biodiesel, renewable gas and renewable jet fuel.

Geothermal Power

At Scot Forge, our expertise in markets relatable to the geothermal power extraction process makes us an ideal manufacturing partner for forging geothermal power generation components. Converting the Earth's natural heat into energy involves many parts we are familiar with, from forged bar used in drilling for steam to blades for turbines, shafts for generators and blanks for gearboxes.

Hydropower

Hydropower is converting water's kinetic energy into electricity. All but two states (Delaware and Mississippi) use hydropower in their energy mix. With decades of experience manufacturing components for turbines, we can support your project whether you are working with impulse turbines or reaction turbines. Many forgings like rings, discs and shafts are ideal for components such as blades, wheels and driveshafts for both turbines and generators.

Solar Energy

Solar energy is critical to the energy mix with a couple of energy harvesting methods. First, by exciting electrons, using panels allows for the collection and transfer of energy. Another technique uses heliostats to reflect the sun's rays and use thermal processes to heat water or salt and transfer energy. Solar energy harvesting employs turbines, and solar panels frequently require gearing in the manufacturing process, which are great applications for forgings.

On-Time Delivery - Our Priority

With a long history of working in the industry, we understand how crucial on-time delivery can be. The Scot Forge Power Generation Services Team is well-versed in the pre- and post-award requirements, from material-process plans to NDE procedures. We know the right steps to take in order to deliver your product on time.

Emergency Response

Our Power Generation Services Team knows that in times of unplanned outages or critical situations, thousands—if not millions—of dollars can be lost each day. As a result, we have established an emergency response program that allows for daily entry of breakdown and rush orders for immediate production response.

A Vast Inventory of Materials

We maintain an extensive inventory of ferrous and non-ferrous materials and can quickly provide vacuum degassed air melt, ESR or VAR for improved cleanliness levels. Our parts are supplied using the highest-quality material available. Power generation-specific materials include carbon, alloy, stainless steel, copper base, nickel base and custom-melt alloys that meet OEM specifications.

Flexible Sizes, Shapes and Quantities

No matter the grade of material or shape and size of the part, our facilities are designed to support both single-piece and high-volume manufacturing.

Scot Forge Difference

At Scot Forge, we know the importance of getting your parts on-time, as expected. However, for customers new to procuring forgings, ordering a forging that will meet all specifications for end-use applications may be a challenge, which is why finding a trusted supplier and partner is essential. Our employee-owners are here to ensure your project stays on track with our forgings by offering:

Pro Tip - Did you know near-net shapes can save you time and money? Oftentimes, a customer calls to order a disc, which they will later machine down to a more shaped part. By working with our technically trained sales team you can get as close to your finished product shape as possible to optimize your production process.
