The Benefits of Working with Scot Forge

Forged Parts for the Gear Industry

Forged shapes…
  • Single and double hubs, trunnions, bevel gear blanks, couplings, flanges
  • Seamless rolled rings, rims, center hubs, sleeves, doughnuts, gear blanks, bull gears, pancake forgings
  • Pinion shafts, step-downs, spindles, rack forgings

    …For these gears…
  • Spurs, helicals, herringbones
  • Internals, bevels, faces
  • Hypoids, worms, spiroids, racks
Vast Inventory of Materials and Tools
Scot Forge maintains an extensive inventory of gear quality alloys including through-hardening, carburizing, and bearing quality grades. This ready inventory allows us to process your order the moment you call.
Breakdown ServiceBreakdown Service
Our scheduling system allows for daily entry of breakdown and emergency orders for immediate production response.

Flexible Sizes, Shapes, and Quantities
You can order single piece or high volume quanitites in single or double hub, ring, gear blank, sleeve, trunnion, doughnut, shaft, hollow or custom shapes, in part weights from 5 lbs. to 80,000 lbs.

Near Net Shapes From Thousands of Tools
Near Net Shapes For Thousands of ToolsCombining our forging process and thousands of in-stock tools, we can produce parts closer to net shape with forged-in instead of machined-in steps, tapers, and I.D./O.D. dimensions. Extensive tooling also enables us to offer cost-effective prototypes.

Fast Quotes
Our knowledgeable sales staff provides fast quotes—sometimes right over the phone.

Value Added Options from One Source
Whether you need your parts "as forged," rough machined, heat treated, tested, or any combination of the above, Scot Forge provides single source responsibility—so you can prevent the delays and quality problems that arise with multiple suppliers.

Material Savings
Shaped to size with minimal wasterReduce Material CostsForging can measurably reduce material costs since it requires less starting metal to produce many part shapes. For example, with a torch cut part (A), all corner stock and the full center slug are lost, even though you pay for the excess material. With a forging (B), the part is shaped to size with minimal waste.

Grain Flow Comparison

Forged BarForged Bar:
Directional alignment through the forging process has been deliverately oriented in a direction requiring maximum strength. This also yields ductility and resistance to impact and fatique.

Machined BarMachined Bar:
Unidirectional grain flow has been cut when changing contour, exposing grain ends. This renders the material more liable to fatique and more sensitive to stress corrosion cracking.

Cast BarCast Bar:
No grain flow or directional strength is achieved through the casting process.

Guarantee Programs
  • Scot Forge offers 1- and 2-week guaranteed delivery programs on many standard forgings.
  • Scot Forge RingmastersOur Franklin Park, IL hammer shop offers guarantees on standard open die rings, blanks, and hubs up to 30" O.D. and up to 2,000 lbs. that are forged from certain common grades, with in-house tooling.
  • Ringmasters, represented by Scot Forge, offers guarantees on forged rolled rings up to 125" O.D. and up to 7,000 lbs.
Both 1-week guarantees apply to forged and shipped parts, while the 2-week guarantees apply to forged and heat treated (one process) parts.
